Chris founded Ashfield Healthcare, a UK contract sales organisation, in 1996 with his wife Samantha. Within a decade, Ashfield became the market leader and was bought by UDG Healthcare in 2000. Chris was appointed as a main board director of UDG Healthcare shortly afterwards. Under his continued leadership, Chris has taken Ashfield from strength to strength, growing and diversifying its services.


After 16 major acquisitions in as many years, Ashfield is now an international healthcare services organisation with eight areas of expertise and 5,500 staff in 20 countries. Chris is based at the Ashfield Division’s headquarters in Leicestershire, UK.

EXECUTIVE VICE-PRESIDENT OF ASHFIELD

Jez joined May 2017 as Chief Operating Officer of UDG Healthcare and Executive Vice-President of Ashfield. Jez oversees Ashfield Division globally and has responsibility for Group IT, Quality, Compliance, Strategy and Communications as part of his role as COO of UDG Healthcare plc.


Jez brings extensive international pharmaceutical experience to UDG having spent 18 years at Sanofi, holding numerous senior leadership positions across the globe, in Europe, South Africa, Korea, Australia, Japan and the US. In his most recent role as Senior Vice President and North America Region Head for Diabetes and Cardiovascular, he was responsible for 3,500 employees and sales of over $5 billion. Prior to joining Sanofi in 1999, Jez held a variety of positions at Astra Pharmaceuticals and Lorex Synthelabo in the UK.

Julian joined the industry in 1982, working for Glaxo. Over a 13 year period he worked in a range of sales and marketing roles and was involved in the highly successful launch of numerous new chemical entities and two company mergers. In 1995 Julian joined Innovex (Quintiles) in a senior business development role, rapidly moving onto the UK board and heading a business unit. In 2000 he left to start his own contract sales business, In2Focus. Julian sold the company to UDG Healthcare in 2005.


Since then, he has been with Ashfield as a member of its Board of Directors. Following the acquisition of Pharmexx, Julian is now responsible for Ashfield’s contract sales, nursing and contact centre teams across Europe, Asia, Canada and Emerging Markets.

Doug Burcin is the President, Ashfield Healthcare Communications and a member of the Ashfield SLT. His primary focus will be accountable for the overall strategy, operational effectiveness, total profitability and standing with stakeholders with a focus on value creation and customer centricity for Ashfield's global network of over 20 agencies and specialist service divisions. Doug is based in Boston, MA, but spends the majority of his time working with clients and our agencies across the globe.


Having worked in almost every disease category in medicine, Burcin has a proven track record in building brands of all shapes, sizes and global markets. Doug has been an early agency pioneer in working with a wide range of clients in the specialty and rare disease markets. And, with the ongoing disruption in the agency business, Burcin has been an industry thought leader on different agency models leveraging creativity, data and technology to strategically and creatively build brands.


Prior to Ashfield, Doug spent 2 1/2 years at Klick Health, the world's largest independent digital health agency as Chief Growth Officer. As a major driver of the agency's continued 30% Y/Y growth – Doug led the agency's transformation into building and operationalizing the strategic and creative brand building capabilities for the agency.


Prior to Klick Health, Doug spent 18 years at Havas Health, the last eight as Global CEO—presiding over the global health network agency's 60 offices and 2,500 employees worldwide. Under Doug's leadership, the global agency network transformed new agencies, experimented with different service models and built the first unified agency network with global capabilities for healthcare professionals, patients and payers with services across consulting, advertising, market access, medical education, digital innovation and public relations.


His leadership at Havas Health has been recognized across the industry with accolades that include being named "Advertising Persons of the Year" by Medical Advertising News, Medical Marketing & Media's "Network of the Year" and Adweek's first "Healthcare Agency of the Year."

Nicola Burns

Managing Director, Ashfield Meetings & Events and Insight & Performance

Nicola is the Global Managing Director of event and communications agency, Ashfield Meetings & Events, and business analytics and insights agency Ashfield Insight & Performance. She is based in the UK and leads a team of over 350 professionals across Europe and the US.


Having spent her whole career working in, and for, the Pharmaceutical Industry her time with Ashfield spans over 12 years. During that time she has held senior leadership positions in the Ashfield Division in sales, business services, training and HR. She joined the Ashfield Meetings & Events Board as Operational Effectiveness Director in 2012. In addition to her focus on delivering performance improvement throughout the business, Nicola was instrumental in guiding the business through acquisitions and subsequent mergers. Nicola was appointed as Global Managing Director in 2013 and is also part of the Ashfield Division senior executive team.
